Directions to the Centre of the Universe from Tha Phae Gate (Scroll to the bottom of the page to print. Click on any words in blue for a photograph of the location, which will open in a new window. Once you have viewed the photograph close the window/tab and return to the directions)

From Tha Phae Gate travel 0.9 km north on Moon Muang Road to the North East corner of the moat.
Bear left onto Sri Poom Road and travel in a straight line, parallel to the moat, for 1.6km
At the North West corner of the moat, bear left onto Arak Road drive 0.2 km and take the first U-turn
After completing the U-turn, get into the left lane as soon as it is safe to do so, bearing left after 0.3 km onto Huay Kaew Road Route 1004.
After 0.3 km, drive past Chiang Mai Orchid Hotel on the left.
After 1.0 km you arrive at traffic lights controlling the junction of Route 1004 and Route 11 (the latter is known as The Superhighway). Amari Rincome Hotel is on your left. Continue on Route 1004, following signs for Doi Suthep.
About 0.2 km from the intersection of Routes 1004 and 11 you will see "The Pub" to your left.
After 0.6 km pass Chiang Mai Hill Hotel on the left. Look for road signs to "Mae Rim" and Route 121. Move into the right hand lane and signal right.
At the traffic lights, turn right onto Route 121 at the intersection of Route 1004 and Route 121. The road is signposted Mae Rim and the Chiang Mai Sports Complex (known locally as the 700 Year stadium). This intersection is known as Phucome Intersection as the Phucome Hotel sits at 10 o'clock as you approach the lights from Huay Kaew Road.
Route 121 is called the Irrigation Canal Road for obvious reasons. When you turn right from Huay Kaew, the canal runs down the middle of the highway, separating North and South traffic flows (3 lanes travel North, 3 lanes travel South). When you first turn onto Route 121 from the 1004, you will see the canal on your right. After approximately 1 km, this changes and the canal will be on your left.
At regular intervals there are bridges across the canal allowing pedistrian and vehicular access to the other side of the highway. You need to turn left at the 5th bridge.
First travel past 3 bridges on your right.
At Bridge No.1 (0.2 km from the traffic lights), look for Oak Tree Restaurant, on your left.
After 0.3 km Bridge No.2 is on the right, and “Fine Thanks on Canal” Restaurant is on your left. The bridge is controlled by traffic lights
After a further 0.3 km look for a public telephone box and a sign for "Asian Harm Reduction Network" on your left. Bridge No.3 is on the right
At this point the main road curves sharply to your right taking you over the canal. Once you come out of the curve, the canal is on your left.
0.3 km from Bridge No.3 you will see Bridge Number 4 on your left. This leads to "Baan Ing Doi" - a gated community of private houses. (The sign is in Thai only - บ้านอิงดอย - but the bridge is painted white and is well-maintained so it stands out clearly)
SLOW DOWN after passing Bridge Number 4 - the first bridge over the canal which turns left instead of right - and prepare to turn left after 0.2 km.
Turn left at Bridge Number 5 signposted Star Palace Condominium Go straight for 0.6 km to the end of the road following signs for Sang Serene House. (You will pass Star Palace Condominium on your right)
At the T junction, (3-way intersection) turn right.
After approximately 0.3 km, turn right when you see the signs for Centre of the Universe onto a private road leading to the car park.
